Time for some (minty) freshening up?

by Briana on June 6, 2011

So what’s this all about? Every month we’ll open a new thread, prompted by the Postcard. And then we’ll just riff and a bunch of our conversation will happen right here.

We’ll probably throw in some businessey processing and light-hearted accountability. And maybe even a little dream analysis to keep things interesting. It’s an experiment of sorts — We have no idea what it might turn into, and we can wait to see!

This month’s postcard is here. To get the postcards conveniently delivered to your mailbox every month, go here.

……

It’s funny– before Eileen got all minty-fresh with the postcard, I committed to playing along with Elizabeth’s Shiva Nata experiment for the month of June. And specifically in connection with giving fresh eyes to some old patterns of mine that have been getting kinda trigger-happy.

At first I was really resistant to dealing with the stuff at all. I have worked hard-core on these patterns for a long time, and I kept getting stuck wondering how I ended up here again.

But the thing I keep getting more and more clearly is that there’s really no such thing as back here again. Instead I’m discovering new insights about old things and letting old patterns transform themselves into new possibilities.

Geez– it sounds really cheesy, but that’s the way of a minty-fresh insight.

Sometimes the thing that’s causing me to meltdown is just in need of some… melting down.

Does anything in your life need some freshening up?

Is it a new way of looking at an old thing? Or taking apart something old and putting it together in a new way? (Sorry, deconstruction on the brain– did I mention all that Shiva Nata? : )

Oh and hey, while we’re here–what’s up with you this month? What are you working on?

What’s next for you?

Oh my word, it was good to talk to you today! I swear you get my head on straight. It’s almost like cheating.

Okay, so what is next? What am I looking at differently?

Right now a huge focus is my family’s health and eating. Goals for this month: continue transition away from animal products and sugar (I’m looking at you Uncle Seth’s Pink Cookie here at Tully’s.) This is sort of the underpinning of all of my moods that is allowing me to get more done and have more ideas, so it’s an important one.

As for what I want to do with all this newfound lightness and energy? PODCAST. You. me. “Overheard at the Distillery” comes to the world this month! Are you with me?

:)

I know! And then the exact thing we talked about happened to me, where I got off the phone with you and I have all this energy and I don’t know what to doooooooooo!

Jotting that down as a future podcast topic of conversation.

This month I am looking at my clients and my array of offerings with new eyes.

Shining up my best work, to really own it, and let the world in on my secret awesome-sauce, then remembering with every interaction to recognize how wonderfully creative and heart-centered my clients are. Not only are they who I _want_ making a difference and changing the world, but they are MORE THAN able to take the actions to be joyful and make room for all of us to live lives of connected self expression.

What a lovely thing to say (and feel!) about your people. I can’t help but guess that they, and those who are still looking for you, feel the same way about you. Yay for new eyes!

E! And everyone : )

So I went to an Ayurveda workshop this weekend and it got me thinking about energy and what I do with mine and the ways I feel compelled to expend it rightnow! (the way you and I were discussing the other day, E).

Like it is anytime I come across a personality/constitution/essential nature typecasting system that happens to resonate with me, there’s something affirming about gathering little nuggets of information about WHY I do the things I do in MY particular ways.

And one of the things I learned in the workshop (which I will surely butcher here) is that each of the Ayurvedic doshas manages energy differently. And the two doshas that seem to predominate in me like to disperse energy immediately and constantly, and channel energy into a satisfying purpose, in that order.

The other dosha tends to ask something more along the lines of “why should I expend my energy at all?”

Made me laugh my head off at our conversation and the question you asked me about my insistence that I must DO something when I’m feeling all buzzy.

@bri “why spend any energy at all?” –ding ding ding, that’s me! No wonder we are such good biz partners :)

@christyna that’s absolutely beautiful! how are things going with your month?

Checking in: I am seriously bouncing off the walls!! (ok not literally since I am typing this one handed with a sleeping babe in the crook of my other arm : P)–our podcast is almost here and it was fun to make, AND I made a lot of progress with tech stuff yesterday that in the past would have had me hiding under a blanket. Yay for focus!

Continued healthy eating is going well, too. We have passed the fired-up, fun stage but so far most of our changes are sticking. It helps to have a supportive partner on the home front :)

A bug challenge coming up: family visit this weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone, but this introvert in me gets a little anxious at the thought of disrupted routines. Especially when everything is going so! well!
